As companies add AI to their software development, ‘vibe coding’ is becoming more common. In vibe coding, AI agents generate, modify, and deploy code autonomously. Traditional DevSecOps tools, designed for static development environments, cannot see into these new, dynamic AI systems that use agents, MCP servers, and large language models.
Backslash Security is the first cybersecurity company created specifically to protect this new AI way of working. Its platform brings together several security tools into a single system, giving companies detailed insight into their AI development environments and real-time protection against threats. With guardrails and active monitoring across all development tools, Backslash helps organisations safely and confidently use AI in coding.
Today, Backslash Security has raised $19 million in Series A funding, led by KOMPAS VC, with support from Maniv, Artofin Venture Capital, and existing investors StageOne Ventures and First Rays Capital. This brings total funding to $27 million.
This funding will help speed up platform development and support global growth.
Full-stack protection for the new era of autonomous software creation
Shahar Man and Yossi Pik founded Backslash in 2022 after seeing how AI is changing software supply chains and realising that current security models are not enough.
Man shares with TFN, “We spent many years at senior mgmt positions at SAP, managing hundreds of software developers, so they recognise just how revolutionary the vibe coding and the use of AI in software development is going to be. I also spent several years at a cybersecurity company (Aqua Security) and became familiar with the challenges of securing the software supply chain. This led us to realise this new way of creating software is going to present new risks and security challenges, while at the same time rendering traditional application security obsolete within a few years.”
Backslash’s technology protects every layer of AI software creation. Rather than using separate tools for different risks, Backslash offers integrated protection across IDEs, AI coding agents like Cursor, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and large language models.
Its main features include unified visibility into all AI development environments, real-time monitoring to catch and respond to threats quickly, policy guardrails for best practices and compliance, and protection tailored for AI-assisted code generation.
This context-driven design sets Backslash apart from other AI security companies such as HiddenLayer, Protect AI, and Robust Intelligence.
What about diversity?
On diversity, Man notes, “Even as a small team, we bring together a wide range of ages, currently from 17 to 57. Our R&D team in Israel also reflects ethnic diversity, including Arab Muslim developers, a representation that is growing within the local tech ecosystem. In terms of gender diversity, women currently make up 15% of our team. Increasing this share is an important focus.”
What comes next?
With this new funding, Backslash will grow its research and development to improve the platform’s detection, governance, and response features. The company also plans to expand in the U.S. and Europe to meet the rising demand for secure AI development.
Man concludes, “Given the dynamics of our space, we’re focusing on the next 2-3 at the most, which this funding round is intended to enable. We will continue to invest in our platform, tracking AI innovations in the space. At the same time, we’re expanding our go-to-market footprint, more than doubling our sales team and supporting roles. The goal is to show triple-digit growth in 2026 and 2027.”
