Swedish healthtech unicorn Kry received over $160 million in a new funding round. The investment came from existing backers including Teachers’ Venture Growth, Index Ventures, Accel, Creandum (that invested in Distribusion and YuLife), Project A, and new investor klaP Capital Partners. This investment follows the recent layoffs by the company.

Growth plans

“This is all about creating more resilient and sustainable healthcare services for the longer term. We want more patients across Europe to have faster access to high-quality healthcare, and we want healthcare professionals to spend more time with patients to improve and save lives,” commented CEO and co-founder Johannes Schildt.

From the money side of the coin, Series C and D investor Teachers’ Venture Growth (TVG, a part of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan)’s Olivia Steedman added, “By providing integrated, digital solutions, Kry has reduced the burden on healthcare systems and delivered improved patient journeys. We’re delighted for Johannes and his team as they continue Kry’s growth story and shape an efficient, sustainable future for healthcare in Europe.”

Revolutionises future of healthcare

Founded in 2015 by Fredrik Jung Abbou, Joachim Hedenius, Johannes Schildt, and Josefin Landgård, Kry is one of the largest providers of online doctor appointments in Europe. The company transforms the future of healthcare by making care more accessible and convenient. Its app lets users meet a doctor or therapist using their mobile device anytime, anywhere.

Using this app, patients can schedule a 15-minute video call with a doctor. Ahead of the appointment, users are asked to give a written description of the symptoms they are experiencing, upload relevant pictures and reply to questions related to the symptoms before consulting the doctor. Kry costs a charge per session for a consultation but this cost can be reimbursed by insurance.

Kry’s Care Connect is a free, safe, and secure platform that enables any healthcare professional across the globe to see and treat their patients remotely by video. Its licensed doctors, psychologists, and nurses are ready to help patients in the app 24/7. Headquartered in Stockholm, KRY has over 300 employees and over 700 clinicians. It operates in Sweden, Norway, and Germany. In the UK and France, it operates under the brand name LIVI.

Livi Connect is a free web-based platform that allows anyone to speak to a doctor face-to-face by video, providing care when and where it’s needed without the hassle of installing another app or software.
