$115M Series E awards unicorn status to German employee communications startup Staffbase

Staffbase Founders

Now categorised as a high-growth firm, at a $1.1B valuation, Staffbase, a leading provider of employee communications management solutions, has recently announced a $115M (€106M) Series E financing round. This funding round was led by General Atlantic Private Equity Partners with participation from existing investor Insight Partners.

This capital infusion will assist Staffbase in further scaling internationally and strengthening its leadership in the internal communications space. The German scaleup also plans to further invest in expanding its platform, working to complete its full integration of all solutions with Microsoft 365, as well as further accelerating growth, at a time of increased market demand for employee communications solutions.

Capital? Not a problem to Staffbase

Staffbase undoubtedly has adequate backing and support from its investors. This Series E round comes after the company’s $145 million (€122 million) Series D, still led by General Atlantic, in March 2021. That same month, Staffbase merged with Canada-based Bananatag, a leading provider of email-based internal communications solutions.

November 2021 saw Staffbase acquire Valo Solutions, a leading provider of intranet and workplace solutions for Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. Staffbase currently has nearly 600 employees across 14 global offices with headquarters in Chemnitz, Germany.

On top of scaling plans for Staffbase, the company plans to invest approximately $54 million (€50 million) in 2022 to establish various initiatives, including an academy dedicated to the ongoing development of skills for internal communications professionals. This investment is in a bid to support the growth of an industry with an ever-increasing need for specialised training.

An increased demand for workplace communication solutions

One key takeaway for organisations since the onslaught of the pandemic was the importance of communication and collaboration tools within. The rapid adoption of communication technologies and services by companies consequently witnessed the rapid growth of Staffbase.

“We founded this company in 2014 believing that internal communications deserve purpose-built solutions. Whether employees are frontline or work behind a desk, the last two years have shown that clear and authentic communication that reaches all employees across an organisation has become mission-critical,” said Dr Martin Böhringer, Co-Founder and CEO of Staffbase.

Staffbase, a high-growth company

With over 7 years in the space, Staffbase is truly an experienced provider of employee communications management solutions for enterprises. With mobility embedded into Staffbase’s platform, employers can securely reach their employees with reduced complexity, regardless of their location. Staffbase’s solutions also avail employees greater access to relevant corporate information along with tools for the modern workplace, including existing intranets.

Having more than doubled its revenue in 2021, Staffbase proved to investors of its high-growth state. This comes on top of also working with renowned brands such as Adidas and Audi. Staffbase provides its branded solutions to more than leading 2000 companies globally, transforming their employee communications and gathering recognition from ClearBox Consulting, having been awarded the 2021 Global Employee App Choice Award and 2022 Choice Award for Intranet and Employee Experience Platforms.

“Staffbase’s significant growth demonstrates the global resonance of its mission to enable deeper engagement between enterprises and their employees. As the world continues to adapt to new modalities of working, and as enterprise workforces become increasingly international, connectivity and communication will become more valuable than ever before. We are proud to back Martin and the Staffbase team as they develop solutions that have a positive impact on organisations worldwide.” commented Achim Berg, Operating Partner at General Atlantic.
