As food and grocery delivery competition intensifies in Turkey, platforms are under pressure to scale faster, expand selection, and improve unit economics in a market characterised by high demand and price sensitivity.
To stay ahead, global players are increasingly looking at consolidation and partnerships rather than building everything from scratch. Uber Technologies has signed an agreement to acquire Getir’s delivery business in Türkiye, marking a major step in Uber’s long-term strategy in the country.
The transaction has been agreed with Mubadala Investment Company, Getir’s key backer, and is subject to regulatory approval and standard closing conditions.
“This agreement is a significant milestone for Getir and is a testament to the strong operating model and leading brand our team has built in our home market of Türkiye. We are excited to bring Getir’s pioneering ultrafast delivery expertise to Uber’s global ecosystem, as we continue to enhance the experience for consumers, couriers, restaurants, and retailers. We are proud of what we have achieved with the support of Mubadala and look forward to the next chapter of growth as part of the Uber family,” says Batuhan Gultakan, CEO of Getir.
The deal brings Getir’s food, grocery, retail, and water delivery operations in Türkiye under Uber’s umbrella. Once completed, Uber plans to integrate Getir into Trendyol Go, creating a larger, more diversified delivery ecosystem.
“With a thriving digital economy and a dynamic consumer base, Uber is committed to investing in Türkiye for the long term. By bringing together these leading platforms, we aim to support the continued growth of a vibrant and competitive ecosystem that delivers even more value for consumers, couriers, and merchants,” says Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber.
Post-acquisition changes
Post-acquisition, consumers will continue to use the Getir Super App, but with access to a wider range of restaurants from Trendyol Go. At the same time, Trendyol Go users will be able to order Getir’s grocery products directly through the Trendyol Go app.
Uber says the combination will increase customer choice, generate more earning opportunities for couriers, and drive higher demand for restaurants and retailers across Türkiye.
“Mubadala has been a committed partner to Getir, supporting the company and building a leading food and on-demand delivery platform in Türkiye. This transaction reflects the strength of the business and the progress it has made, particularly over the last year. Türkiye remains a highly attractive market for Mubadala, and we continue to evaluate long-term investment opportunities in the country,” notes Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Deputy Group CEO at Mubadala Investment Company.
With regulatory approvals pending, the acquisition shows that Uber wants to expand in Türkiye and helps Getir grow with support from a global platform.
